EPD has served both government and commercial customers, providing an amazing variety of products from the simple steel box to complicated assemblies requiring more exotic alloys.  No matter what the project, EPD has the talent and experience to guarantee success.

Project Examples
Our primary materials of construction are carbon steel and stainless and alloy steels. However, we also have experience with titanium and non-metallic materials such as high-density polyethylene plastics.

 

Radioactive Material Packaging
EPD is best known for manufacturing containers used for the storage, transportation, and disposal of radioactive materials — especially for the DOE’s TRU waste program. We have also built containers for commercial nuclear and defense industry customers. Our experience includes the following products:

TRUPACT-II and HalfPACT - NRC Type B packaging used by the DOE to transport contact-handled transuranic waste to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) for underground disposal.

 

RH72-B - NRC Type B packaging used by the DOE to transport remote-handled waste to WIPP.

Standard Waste Box - DOT 7A Type A carbon steel bolted closure container designed and tested by the DOE for use in the TRUPACT-II.

IP-Metal Box Series - Burial boxes designed to meet special process, storage, transportation, and disposal needs. These carbon steel boxes conform to 49CFR173.411 (a)(b)(1). Standard models are available with internal volumes of 45, 90, and 105 cubic feet. These boxes are also available in custom sizes.

Bolted Closure Type A Box - Type A carbon steel box series that is also designed to meet process, storage, transportation, and disposal needs. These boxes conform to 49CFR173.411 (a)(b)(3). Also available in custom configurations.

 

Standard Pipe Overpack Container - DOT 7A Type A container that includes a 304 stainless steel 12-inch diameter pipe weldment, rigid poly liner, fiberboard dunnage, and a 55-gallon drum. This container is approved by the NRC for shipment and storage of nuclear waste.

 

S-100 Pipe Overpack Container - DOT 7A Type A container that includes a 304 stainless steel 6-inch diameter pipe weldment, HDPE neutron shielding, rigid poly liner, fiberboard dunnage, and a 55-gallon drum. The S-100 is typically used by the DOE to transport and store radioactive sources.

Defense Fissile Material Container - 304 stainless steel container designed by Sandia National Laboratories. The double-walled, foam filled container is used to transport and store plutonium pits (nuclear triggers) from the former Soviet Union’s long-range nuclear missile weapons arsenal.

Plutonium Stabilization Packaging System (PuSPS) - This canister system is used by the DOE complex for the storage of plutonium metals and oxides. It’s also known as the Type 3013 container.

Gloveboxes

EPD has fabricated custom gloveboxes of both stainless steel and titanium that are used by the DOE to perform hazardous radioactive waste handling operations.

Commercial Products
Our commercial products range from miscellaneous equipment to pressure vessels used in a variety of industries.

Vessels Built with ASME Code Stamps - EPD is certified to manufacture and repair ASME Section VIII pressure vessels. We have built various types of stainless and carbon steel commercial vessels ranging in size from 5 to over 12,000 gallons.

EPD performs commercial NDE services.  See our testing capabilities here.  We have recently performed MT and PT inspection of large gears as well as UT and dimensional inspections of pumps and water lines to certify water flow rates.  We can also provide training in NDE techniques.
